About
Yun Young Shin is a Classical Guitar Luthier based in Nottingham.
Her journey as a guitar-maker started in her 20s when she fell in love with the art of luthiering. After graduating from Seoul National University with a degree in Consumer Psychology, Yun Young’s paths crossed with the classical guitar, and she decided to embark on a new path of her life. Her journey started under the guidance of renowned Korean guitar maker, Moon-Seok Choi, where she cultivated her craftsmanship.
To further refine her expertise she moved to the UK and became the sole mentee of esteemed luthier Christopher Dean. She continued her studies at Merton College London and School of Musical Instrument Crafts at Newark College, where she went on to earn her BA in Guitar Making.

Yun Young is now based in Nottingham with her husband, classical guitarist, Sungbin Cho. She continues to create guitars that blend warmth, clarity, and responsiveness — instruments that are as visually elegant as they are sonically rich. Each guitar she makes is handmade with intention, care, and a pursuit of balance: between form and function, unique beauty and meticulous skill.
Driven by a quiet but unwavering ambition to establish herself among the finest luthiers, Yun Young remains deeply committed to her craft. Her workshop is not just a place of creation, but a space of ongoing learning, listening, and devotion — where every instrument is a new opportunity to embody a perfect harmony of precision and artistry.
